Music: Songs for Survival
Friday, September 19th, 2008After Bruce Parry’s award-winning BBC series Tribe there’s a follow-up: Amazon. This time he’s rounded up a couple of musicians to write and compose songs for a soundtrack, with its profits donated to Survival, an international organisation who supports tribal people all over the world.
The participating musicians are Mike Oldfield, Hot Chip, Yusuf Islam, KT Tunstall, Will.i.am and many more. Guy Berryman from Coldplay, Mew‘s Jonas and Magne F from A-ha even put together a brand new band especially for this occasion: Apparatjik. The music from Apparatjik will also be used for the show’s credits. I’ve heard a few tunes and it’s really gorgeous, very fitting, soaring melodies.
The soundtrack is digitally available already and a physical record will be released on October 6th. Check out Survival’s subsite for more information.
