I’ve got another small New York story for ya. While shopping at MoMA’s design store I discovered this lush NYC subway map, designed by ZERO PER ZERO. I finally dug up the map again and snooped around on their website. They also designed a NYC subway calendar, poster and several smaller maps. There’s more though. I’ve added a commercial they made for Krispy Kreme below which I think is pretty awesome.
I came across one of Martine Johanna‘s drawings in the fabulous Dutch mag Blend and couldn’t resist googling. She’s clearly inspired by illustrative work from the seventies, using organic forms and colours to appeal to our love for aesthetic beauty in art (well at least to mine!). This she mixes in with seemingly allegoric details, giving the drawings another layer that’s worth looking into.

I can do nothing else but admire people who still handle only pen and paper to come up with the most exquisite images. Fiodor Sumkin is definitely amongst them. Add some decent social criticism and an open mind to basically anything in the artistic world and you’ve got yourselves some serious Russian doodler. Serious enough to have worked for the New York Times, Rolling Stone and Elsevier magazine. Wait, Elsevier is a very, very prestigious Dutch magazine loved my many, many Dutch citizens, don’t joke around with that!

Illustrator, animator and writer Tomas Schats‘ expertise seems to be the ability to put things to paper that you never imagined to be vizualized. He’s done many illustrations for national newspapers and magazines, and no wonder really. His work is insanely simple, though it grabs the attention immediately and you’ll find yourself staring at it longer than you’d like to admit.
