Before & After: A home called Junebug

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

If you think of a great place to live wouldn’t an all-American bungalow, including a porch and the works, be on your list? It’s on mine for sure!

overview01

Jessica and Erik from Portland, Oregon bought a 1920s bungalow earlier this year and have been renovating for a fair few months. What’s interesting is that their keen eye for vintage details helped them draw a line between what needed to be stripped, fixed or preserved. This resulted in a very delicate balance between the old and the new, blending the two seamlessly together and making for a warm and welcome home. Here are a few before and after pictures:

Interior Design: Danielle Mac Innes

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Danielle Mac Innes owns Fuse interiors in Ireland and won a Best Newcomer Interior Design award in 2008. And rightly so, her style is colourful and fresh and she manages to make the interiors appear unique and personal. She’s been working on apartment fit-outs, renovations and show apartments. I can’t wait to see more of her work!

Interior Design: vegetating chairs from Vitra

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

French Vitra designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, who you might know from the popular decoration pieces called ‘Algues’ now created chairs that they named Vegetal, pretty much in the same vain as the Algues.
Inspired by nature’s organic shapes, these chairs resemble a group of trees strangled into another, together creating a layered and asymmetric construction. Yet their designs are remarkably practical. They’re made of sturdy polyamide and are even stackable. Add some bright colours to the mix and you should be ready to plant those plain ol’ whites by the trash.

Keep an eye on the Vitra website for availability.

Affordable Design: George Nelson clocks

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

You might’ve heard of George Nelson‘s legendary clocks, like the Ball clock, the Spindle, the Sunflower. Vitra has been kind (and smart) enough to recreate those classics and sell them to the lucky few who can afford them. If you’re less fortunate financially speaking, there are a couple of great alternatives.

Take the white Ball clock (1964) for example:

And the Asterix (1964):

What about the magnificent Sunflower from 1958:

I’m a sucker for interior design and decorating. I don’t mind a bit of colour, madness and kitchy nonsense. Though I do believe I know when and where to stop. In my search for designing limits I’ve come across Apartdesign many times over the years. I think it’s time to give them a second of my little limelight.

I love the idea of using a clear alphabetical system as my record collection is expanding regularly. I actually reorganized my CDs a few weeks ago. I bought a bunch of empty jewelcases, cut white paper at the size of an actual cd inlay and wrote down every letter up until Z.
Just today I come across these brilliant and good-looking CD dividers! Life ain’t always fair.
