The robo-look has officially arrived (ugh!). A very short investigation learns that fall and winter trends have a few very prominent features: black, grey, sequin, animal prints, fur, organic fabric and big belts.

I’ll admit I’m biased, I already knew Sanna from the incredible illustrative work she did on Keane’s Under The Iron Sea in 2006. So every once in a while I check her site to see what she’s been up to.
For some time now she has been working on a spring collection for Marimekko, a Finnish company known for its colourful home and fashion items. So now we can enjoy her art in a very different way.. she’s created designs for cloths, fabrics, purses, bags, plates, mugs and a few other items.

You should be able to purchase these items at a local shop. In case your attempts fail, I noticed the NYC store has a nice webshop.

I know, blog moodboards are very common and maybe too much to grasp for me as a 100% autodidactic arts blogger and I tend to not follow trends. But secretly I really love checking out new runway pieces. It’s just fun to see how the world of fashion and design changes each season. And besides that I really want to put images, ideas and styles that I have in mind onto paper, or rather into photoshop and onto the web. So I’m gonna give it a go anyway, please let me know what you think!

This spring it’s all about muted vs. bright colours, mostly soft pink, coral red and some hints of heavy blue and minty green. There’s lots of fringes, shiny, wrinkly and see through fabrics, folky prints, flowers and butterflies. Most accessories are light and bright, shoes are showing VERY high heels and there’s some glamorous African-style jewellry.
I’ve also noticed a futuristic, geometric style coming up, but I think that will maybe come out properly in the fall. With the current economic and social climate and all we might want to stick to truckloads of colourful loveliness just a little longer..
